Benjamin Zephaniah

Benjamin Zephaniah and World Book Day

We decided to celebrate our local hero, Benjamin Zephaniah, for World Book Day this year. We have always adored his poetry and novels at QB, and his writing will continue to be used in lessons across school for many years to come due to his inimitable talents and true Brummie grit. We listened to a sample of his stories and poems in lessons throughout the day as well as planting a memorial tree in his honour. Pupils thought about the importance of laying down roots, both literally and metaphorically. World Book Day was both thought provoking and great fun, with fancy dress for Years 7 and 8, library competitions, tree planting and prizes galore. The pictures really do say it all! This is one of our favourite days of the year at QB and we’re already planning for 2025...
