Aim Higher: Further Education for Me
8 students from KS4 went on a school visit to UCB in the penultimate week of the Autumn term.
The day was created by AimHigher which is a partnership of universities working to support learners who face a number of challenges to broaden their horizons and make informed decisions about their future educational and career choices.
So, the main purpose of the visit was to seek advice and find out what extra support our students could be entitled to. One of the day's recurring themes was support with student finances and the grade offers that pupils should expect when applying to College or University. Financing your next steps in education is a daunting prospect so we were ever so proud of our Y10 and Y11 students who asked great questions and took away a lot of new knowledge about their potential pathway into Further Education.
We had several tours of the college facilities on campus, including the air steward training center which had its very own plane where our students were able to practice serving guests on board. Later, we toured the student accommodation areas and got a real sense of the freedoms and opportunities that come with further education.
