Inspiring Talks at the DLP Reading Festival!

Queensbridge Shines at the Birmingham South Area Network Reading Festival!

We’re thrilled to share the amazing experience our students had during the Birmingham South Area Network Reading Festival! This event was organised as part of the work that we are involved with on the DLP (Developing Local Provision) Project.

As part of this exciting event, we had the pleasure of hosting author Josh Silver, who captivated our Year 9 and Year 10 students with his lively talks about his dystopian series, HappyHead and DeadHappy. We opened our doors to welcome students from local schools to attend the talk, as well as get their books signed in the library (which was highly praised 😊). Josh’s energy and enthusiasm truly inspired our students, sparking conversations about creativity, writing, and the power of storytelling. A huge thank you to Josh for leaving our students buzzing with ideas and excitement!

In addition, a group of our Year 7 students attended an inspiring talk at Selly Park Girls' School, where author Onjali Rauf spoke about her heartwarming and important book, The Boy at the Back of the Class. Onjali shared real-life stories of refugees, highlighting the struggles and strength of displaced children. Her talk was both powerful and thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impression on our students.

We’re incredibly proud of how engaged and respectful our students were throughout the festival, representing Queensbridge with wonderful behaviour and a love for learning. A huge thank you also goes to the festival organisers for making this such a fantastic event, and of course, to the brilliant authors who left our students feeling inspired and motivated to read and write more.

Well done to everyone involved – it was a truly memorable experience for all!
