A Massive Year for QB Netball

Netball has flourished at Queensbridge over the last few years. However this season’s achievements have by far exceeded any expectations that we had at the start of the new school year.

Preparations began at the end of the summer holidays with our first ever Netball Summer Camp, which proved to be very popular and was attended by many of our girls.

Weekly training sessions began at the start of September, with regular attenders on both Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.

Both Year 7 and 9 teams played a number of fixtures against other schools in the Kings Norton Netball League.

Year 7 were unbeaten in all of their games and saw off opposition from Swanshurst, St Thomas Aquinas, Bartley Green and Colmers Farm to be crowned Division 2 champions.

Our Year 9 team, who were promoted last season, won all but one of their games, beating Edgbaston High School for Girls, Swanshurst and Bishop Challoner along the way, then ending the season with a tremendous victory at King Edwards Five Ways in their final game. Therefore, our Year 9s were crowned Division 1 champions.

Training continued into the new year, as our Netball Squad prepared for the district tournaments. Disappointingly, our Year 7 team didn’t make it past the group stages; however, our Year 9s went all the way and walked away with gold in a thrilling final versus Camp Hill Girls School, where after an 11 all draw it went to sudden death. Against the odds, our girls managed to turn over a Camp Hill centre pass and went on to score the golden goal.

We are massively proud of everything that our girls have achieved this season and look forward to pre-season friendlies, a visit from Wasps Netball and, to end the school year, our Year 9 team will represent Queensbridge School and the Bishop Challoner Sports Partnership at the prestigious Birmingham School Games competition in July.

A huge ‘Thank You’ to all the team members for their efforts in training and competing!
