i Week Review - Year 8

Year 8 rise to the  challenge of 'Speak Out' in iWeek. Year 8 have been embracing the world of public speaking around a number of hard hitting topics during iWeek. Starting the week with a trip to The Mac to see the inspiring film Hidden Figures, provided the perfect setting for the start of what for many was a challenging journey. Pupils looked a topics around racial inequality, gender discrimination and education around the world. As the week progressed pupils completed research tasks, looked at facts and figures around each topic as the book 'Kick' ran alongside each task. Every pupil delivered their speech to their group and then a group of 9 winners delivered to the entire year group in the hall. 'Inspiring', 'passionate', 'hard hitting' were some of the comments as guest judge Jess Phillips, MP and author watched on and then addressed the year group praising them for the courage to speak out and not ever remain silent. A challenging, powerful and motivating week has been had by all and we look forward to seeing the legacy of the week continue into next term.
