Queensbridge Sports Teams shine in The Netherlands

During October half term 48 pupils headed to Valkenburg in The Netherlands for the school's second sports tour. The tour consisted of two Netball teams and two Football teams. The Netball teams took part in an extensive training programme led by coaches and players from England Netball. The teams went through a wide number of practices and drills to improve their skills and then finished the week off with a tournament. The teams finished in third and fifth place, a fantastic achievement. Since returning to school they have claimed a league title at one age group and gone undefeated in another.

The Football teams underwent their own training with coaches linked to Southampton FC. They trained on state-of-the art 4G pitches and then on the evenings headed out under the floodlights to take on Dutch opposition. The Under-14 team claimed a win, a draw and a defeat and then finished the week with their own tournament consisting of the other schools on tour. The team finished with two wins and two defeats, narrowly missing out on the final. The Under-15 team played three games against Dutch opposition claiming an eight-nil win in their first game and two six-four wins in their other two. Finishing the week undefeated, and with three wins from three, demonstrated the improvement the team have made and they cannot wait to put these skills to the test when the District League re-starts in February.

A huge thank you must go to our sponsors S4S, to the staff for giving up their half term and to the parents for supporting the tour and allowing the pupils to go on this fantastic opportunity. Finally, the tour was proud to support Teenage Cancer Trust and we now look forward to organising our next tour and the next residential which sees pupils head to the mountains of Switzerland.
