Blossoming Balsall Heath

The new National Trust Blossom Branch in Birmingham is part of the Blossoming Balsall Heath project where, together with the local community, 300 blossoming trees will be planted in the local area this winter. The Blossom Branch is a space for local families and community groups to come together to learn about blossom, take part in nature themed activities and help shape the project’s tree planting ambitions. The Blossom Branch will be in operation until December, when the lasting-legacy of blossom tree planting will begin. 

This autumn, our year 7 students took part in a competition to write a Haiku (a famous type of poem that is recited in Japan under blossom trees) as part of this project. The winners were invited to decorate and hang their haikus on local trees in Spark Green Park for people to enjoy, and they took part in some nature themed activities within the Blossom Branch.  

A video has been made to be shown, alongside work from Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, in Spark Green Park. Why not head down there over half term to hear and read our pupil’s haikus? We are so proud of the entire year group who have proven themselves to be beautiful poets. Well done Year 7!
