YR9 Police Museum Trip
Year 9 History Students have been studying the Industrial Revolution this term. Just before October Half-Term half of Year 9 had the opportunity to visit the West Midlands Police Museum in town.
The building was built in the Victorian era and used to be a lock-up where people who had been arrested would spend the night in the cells. We got a tour of the museum and were able to see what the cells would have been like in the Industrial Revolution, World War I and the modern day. We even got the chance to be locked in the cell to experience how dark it would’ve been with just a candle for light. We learnt about the reforms Charles Haughton Rafter made to the West Midlands Police Force as he helped Birmingham tackle the crimes of the real Peaky Blinders! We also saw how policing has developed over time and the improvements that have been made in their ability to investigate crimes. One of the best parts of the trip was trying on all the of the police uniforms from across the years.
It was a great trip and we are looking forward to the rest of Year 9 going in December!
